ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಧುನಿಕ ವೈದ್ಯಪದ್ಧತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಭಾರತೀಯ ವೈದ್ಯಪದ್ಧತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸೂಕ್ತ ಮತ್ತು ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಿತವಾದ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ, ಬೋಧನೆ, ತರಬೇತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಯನ್ನು ಖಚಿತ ಪಡಿಸುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯವೊಂದನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ನಿಗಮಿತಗೊಳಿಸುವುದು ಯುಕ್ತವಾಗಿರುವ ಹಿನ್ನಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರವು ರಾಜೀವ್ ಗಾಂಧಿ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಗಳ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಅಧಿನಿಯಮ, 1994ರ ಅನ್ವಯ ರಾಜೀವ್ ಗಾಂಧಿ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಗಳ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿತು.  ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯವು 1996ರ ಜೂನ್ 1ರಂದು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾದ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯವು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಇತರೆ ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಂಯೋಜನೆ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಗಳ ವಿಷಯದ ಸುಮಾರು 210 ಮಹಾವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಗಳು ನೂತನವಾಗಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿತವಾದ ರಾಜೀವ್ ಗಾಂಧಿ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಗಳ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಸುಪರ್ದಿಗೆ ಕೊಡಲಾಯಿತು.

ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯದಾದ್ಯಂತ ಹರಡಿರುವ ಸುಮಾರು 700ಕ್ಕಿಂತಲೂ ಅಧಿಕ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ, ದಂತ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ, ಆಯುರ್ವೇದ, ಹೋಮಿಯೋಪತಿ, ನ್ಯಾಚುರೋಪತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಯೋಗಶಿಕ್ಷಣ, ಯುನಾನಿ, ಫಾರ್ಮಸಿ, ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್, ಫಿಜಿಯೋಥೆರಪಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಇತರೆ ಅರೆವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಮಹಾವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಯೋಜನೆ ನೀಡಿ, ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಅತಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಗಳ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯವೆಂಬ ಖ್ಯಾತಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ.  

ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಗಳ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಹೆಚ್ಚಳಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದು, ವಿವಿಧ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಅರೆ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಕೋರ್ಸ್‍ಗಳಿಗೆ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಉತ್ತಮ ಭವಿಷ್ಯಕ್ಕೋಸ್ಕರ ಪಠ್ಯಪುಸ್ತಕ ಹಾಗೂ ಮೌಲ್ಯಮಾಪನ ವಿಧಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅನೇಕ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ತರಲಾಗಿದೆ. ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಗಳ ವೃತ್ತಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ ಸುಧಾರಣೆಯಿಂದ ಸಮಾಜದ ಆರೋಗ್ಯವು ಸುಧಾರಿಸಿದಂತಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.  ಈ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯವು ಉತ್ತಮ ಬೋಧನೆ ಹಾಗೂ ವಿವಿಧ ಕೋರ್ಸ್‍ಗಳ ಪಠ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದೇ ಸಮಾನತೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಡಿ ಸಮಾಜದ ಒಳಿತಿಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಹಾಗೂ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಭವಿಷ್ಯದ ದೃಷ್ಠಿಯನ್ನು ಗಮನದಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ಹೊಸ ಹೊಸ ವಿಷಯಗಳನ್ನು ಸಹ ಪರಿಚಯಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಬಂದಿದ್ದು ಪಠ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ಆಂಗ್ಲ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ.

ರಾಜೀವ್‍ಗಾಂಧಿ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಗಳ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯವು ಭಾರತದ ಉತ್ತಮ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಮುಂದಾಲೋಚನೆಯಿಂದ ವಿವಿಧ ಕೋರ್ಸ್‍ಗಳಿಗೆ ಬೇಕಾದ ರೀತಿ ಪಠ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಿ ವಿಶ್ವದ ಉತ್ತಮ ಮಟ್ಟದ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಕ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಹೆಸರಾಗಿದ್ದು ಭಾರತೀಯ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಿಂದ ಪ್ರಶಂಸೆಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದಿದೆ.

Introduction

Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka a premier Health Science University in India was established on 1st June 1996 at Bangalore by the Govt. of Karnataka through its enactment of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka Act 1994 to encompass all the existing health science colleges and institutions which were earlier affiliated to the conventional universities in Karnataka with a purpose of ensuring proper and systematic instruction, teaching, training and research in modern and Indians systems of medicine.

The phenomenal increase in the number of institutions and students admitted to various courses of medical and allied health sciences warranted the need to regulate, monitor and standardize the curricula as well as the evaluation systems. The product of medical and health science professional education was to meet the societal needs for better healthcare. Hence, RGUHS had the vision to bring in uniformity in the standards of teaching and have a common curriculum for the various courses offered in different colleges across Karnataka.The medium of instruction is only english.

RGUHS is considered one of the top universities offering the best medical education in India with initiatives to make its syllabi for different courses of world class quality taking it to the forefront of Medical education in India.
